TCPA project on promoting healthy-weight environments

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is currently progressing a project on promoting healthy-weight environments through the planning system. The project aims to identify what elements can help developments of certain types promote a healthy weight environment, ranging from existing neighbourhoods to town centres to large scale developments.

As part of the project, the TCPA will be undertaking some research to understand the extent to which each Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy identifies and sets out local priorities and actions around obesity and the wider environmental determinants. In addition to background research, the TCPA will also be holding local workshops in seven locations to explore these issues in greater detail using local development examples as the basis of engaging professionals across the ‘places’.

The project lead, Michael Chang, would be interested to hear more from local areas about local initiatives. Please email Michael.Chang@tcpa.org.uk to get in touch, ideally by the 7th July.
