Notwestminster 2019: Citizens Assemble

Are you up for the challenge?

Notwestminster 2019: Citizens Assemble

15th & 16th February at The Media Centre, Huddersfield

Notwestminster is a free event for everyone who has something positive to say about local democracy and anyone who is up for the challenge of making it better.

Main event - Saturday 16th  February

The Notwestminster main event includes participant-led workshops, lightning talks, creative activities and lots of opportunities for making contact with others who are interested in local democracy, citizen engagement and civic tech.

Workshops include useful tools for people working together, how to encourage student citizens, how councils can regain trust, creating safe spaces for online dialogue, redesigning council meeting spaces and lots more.

Lightning speakers include Jon Alexander from the New Citizenship Project talking about the #CitizenShift, James McLaughlin sharing the Rotherham Story and what it means for local democracy, Claire Spencer on using the values of citizens to shape local economies, and Sym Roe from Democracy Club explaining what it would take to create more accessible information on all our elected representatives.

Democracy Maker Day - Friday 15th February

Hosted by Involve and the Notwestminster network, this is an opportunity to get involved in practical projects to strengthen our local democracy, with a particular focus on “mini publics” such as citizens’ assemblies and citizens’ juries.

PechaKucha Night – Friday 15th February

The special Notwestminster PechaKucha Night will feature a series of fun and informative, quick-fire presentations from members of the Notwestminster network and our friends.
